Just a Few Theories on the Cause of Hair Loss

First Things First

Hair loss, among men and women, is becoming more and more common. Even though no one really knows the true cause of hair loss, there are some theories. One thing is known for sure, and that is, baldness is a natural act. It’s not a disease or a birth defect, and you must also realize that the re-growth of lost hair is not natural and can end up being very expensive.

Don’t get depressed just because you’re bald. Today, bald men are in fashion, men with full heads of hair are shaving it all off. Look around you; magazines and billboards are featuring male models with shaved heads. Plus, many women are attracted to men with a smooth head.

Theories

One theory for the cause of hair loss is that your androgens (a male sex hormone) that circulate in your blood cause hair follicles to shrink, and eventually the follicles becomes so small that new hair cannot grow.

Stress can cause loss of hair is another theory. Scientist have studied men who were under stress and found that in most cases more than the normal amount of hair fell out 3 months after the stressful period. So in theory, if you relieve the stress in your life, you can avoid hair loss.

Health is also a long known theory that can cause loss of hair. If you are not exercising or eating properly then you are denying your body the proteins that it needs to keep your hair follicles healthy.

The most recent theory to contribute to the cause of hair loss is the male hormones called dihydrotestosterone or DHT. DHT is produced by testosterone, which is produced by the enzyme 5-apha reuctase. The theory is, if you can balance the DHT’s with medication, it will in turn reconstruct your degenerative hair follicles and your hair will begin to grow again.
